Isn't it funny how the Wii game of the year will most likely be...?
Isn't it kind of funny that the game of the year for Wii will most likely be a WiiWare game that is sold for less than retail price? By the way, What do you think game of the year will be for all platforms?
My Guess:
Xbox 360: Gears of War 2
PS3: LittleBigPlanet
Wii: World of Goo
PS2: Yakuza 2
PSP: God of War: Chains of Olympus
DS: Chrono Trigger
You forget the Brawl came out this year. It pretty much had Wii Game of the Year honors locked up the day it was released.
As much as I like World of Goo, it doesn't have any chance, just because it is a puzzle game, which is a niche market. Even a mediochre to good game of a more popular genre would get more votes even from gaming media people as a result.
The more sad part would be if Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 4 did infact win DS honors, and that is much more likely.

While its console counterpart ended up being a rather disappointing and unpleasant experience, my expectations for the PSP version of Dante's Inferno remained optimistic. Something told me Artifical Mind and Movement (A2M) would be able to do offer up something different in the handheld version. And since there's no other hack n' slash game has come out on the PSP, besides God of War: Chains of Olympus, I was more than ready to give Dante's a second chance. To my surprise, it wasn't that bad but, just like the console version, it wasn't that great either.
Let's face it, the PSP incarnation of Dante's tale of revenge and redemption is an almost identical copy of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game. If you've already played the game, you should know that nearly everything in the big boy versions has been brought to the PSP.
Slicing demons with Death's scythe, spamming your Holy Cross all over the place, collecting souls to upgrade your magical spells and weapons, upgrading your Holy and Unholy skill trees; you will even come across some lost souls ready to be either absolved or punished in exchange for Holy or Unholy level-up ranks.
And just like the console version, puzzles are easy to figure out, there are just so many of them that the game suffers from the unoriginal dumb backtracking system you were entirely ready to forget. The fixed camera view works well most of the time and the controls are solid and responsive, but sadly, to switch powers, you have to take your thumb off the analog nub and pick a power with the directional pad. It is cumbersome but ends up being less problematic than it seems.
Most hack n' Slash games are fun to play on consoles and even more fun on a handheld, especially on the PSP. God of War: Chain of Olympus made me realize that this particular genre on the PSP is way underrated and underrepresented. On a more personal note, getting to play a "compressed" version of Dante's Inferno made my experience a whole lot better, albeit still not amazing. I'm always down for a violent mature game (as evidenced by my God of War 3 review) but when I was done with my console playthrough of DI, I was left perplexed, annoyed and disgusted because of how graphic it was.

As if I needed to see a tentacle coming out of a moaning vagina to help me better enjoy the game. The "gross-out" factor is present in the PSP port but the fact that it's a lot less detailed helped me enjoy it better. It doesn't contextualize it any better within the game but certainly makes it more fun and less distracting.
