All Gamers Need Is.
Hi. I'm "Superstar" Rob Schulz. And I'm here to tell you about a new product..
One that's going to change your life...
"Patience!"
In the age of the information superhighway, instantaneous gratification, cell phones and text messages, patience is at an all-time low. In a world that needs it most, the ability to wait for something without a problem is ever dwindling. Whats the deal? Why, people, why?!
This whole idea flooded my head upon reading thread after thread on gaming message boards where fellow posters complain endlessly about the lack of games around holiday time for Nintendo. Ok, so they've had their first slow holiday season...ever? A company thats been around as long as the average videogame player has been alive is allowed to hit a "lull" now and then, aren't they? Keep in mind this is a year where two of the biggest games this generation, Mario Kart Wii andSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, came out in a matter of weeks. Would Nintendo have been forgiven if they spaced those out more? What if they released them both in November with nothing at the front of the year? Would there be the same problem then? Even so, why is it such a big deal?
The unfortunate side effect of a gaming "lull" is the insane hype for upcoming games. Right nowThe Conduit is riding the wave as probably the most hyped game in recent memory, as far as Nintendo consoles go anyway. I can't think of a specific time when a game was hyped as much as this. And its still months away.
Yes. Months.
All aboard the Hype Train..
Over the years I've taught myself to relax a little bit when it comes to hype, and try to avoid falling victim to an unreleased game as much as possible. I mean, what good can it do? If this game really IS as good as you expect it to be, every other game you play up to that point will feel inferior. And what about the ability to focus on anything else? With space marines running around in your head all day, how will you be able to study for that trigonometry test you have coming up? Alright, maybe you're not in school anymore (or maybe you're not old enough to take trigonometry yet), but if you get hooked on something it can definitely play with your mind in a negative manner. Its not just games either (vacations, holidays, people, etc). Its everything! And what if that thing you're obsessing over doesn't turn out to be as good as you built it up in your head? Well then, you've got yourself a real problem then. The Conduit could be in a little bit of trouble as that will undoubtedly strike a few people; not because its necessarily a bad game, but because some people have made it THE BEST GAME EVER.
Avoid the Hype Monster at all costs! Its weak against "Patience!" (You know, like water monsters inFinal Fantasy are weak against "Lightning?" *groan* Sorry..)
I'm not here to talk about The Conduit though. I admittedly haven't been following it too much. You, average reader, are probably reading this and you have more information about it than I do. It happens. How can that be? Well, I've been doing other things, like playing games I already own that came out a while ago. I, personally, like to squeeze every last ounce out of a game that I can, but that's another story for another day. Concern yourself with the CURRENT task at hand in your gaming life, and you'll soon realize that the game (or whatever) you've been waiting for is just around the corner.
There are a whole bunch of paths I can go off of this article, and I hope to get into each of those and share them with you in the coming weeks. My next entry is just 13 days away.
Don't think about it too hard though; It won't get here any faster if you dwell on it.
