How can you play an original xbox game on an xbox 360 ?

My younger bro just bought a game for the classic xbox, but we have an xbox 360 and it wont let him play on it it just says

"go on www.xbox.com/games and download updates to play the game"
It wont work so if you have any ideas that would be great

a lot of classic games are backwards compatible to the 360, but there is a full list on the xbox website. if you have xbox live then you will have the most recent update, meaning that if the game still doesn't work then it is not going to. if you don't have live, go to the address it says, download the update and put it on a memory stick or disk and put it on the xbox. although check the list first to make sure it is a compatible game
