Xbox 360 data migration - new hard drive?
I purchased a 60gb HD to replace my 20gb HD on my 360. No transfer cable was included and the instructions make no mention of such a cable and said I can use a 'PC or USB device' to get data from one to the other (after calling Microsoft, they admitted that's a complete and total lie). Where do I get a legit transfer kit from to do this? No retailer sells it on its own that I have found. I don't want to use ebay or something that requires a PC (many third party ones do).
You can call Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX and ask for "an Xbox 360 hard drive transfer kit." They should send you one for free within 1-3 weeks. It's a cable that connects your new hard drive to the back USB port of the system, and a disk that you put into the system to do the transfer.

Xbox 360 Ring of Death Repair Guide Review
Before you go into a panic with the notion that you will need to ship the unit to the repair center in Texas, let’s go over some troubleshooting that may keep your machine at home and repaired in a much cheaper manner (we’re told Microsoft charges $140.00 or so to repair your Xbox 360).
Focus on the ring of light on the front of the console. There are four quadrants of light. How many quadrants are lit? Here’s the analysis based on that number.
One light (quadrant) lit- General system problems. Unplug your machine from the power source and unplug all the cords. This should re-boot your system. Assuming it works after you return all cords to their proper positions, you should know that the “Red Ring of Death†is in your near future. Consider buying a Repair Guide now.
Two lights (quadrants) lit- This indicates your system is over-heating. You should try to take a 20-30 minute break and let your Xbox 360 cool down every 2-3 hours of game time. Consider buying an external cooling fan to keep your console running for a longer period of time. The “Red Ring of Death†is just a matter of time. Consider a Repair Guide.
Three lights (quadrants) lit- This is the dreaded “Red Ring of Deathâ€. You have two choices. Ship the console off for weeks and pay $140.00, or buy an on-line Repair Kit (Guide). There are many to choose from. Consult the Xbox 360 Review of five most visible Repair Kits. See the link below.
Four lights (quadrants) lit- Breathe easy. Check to be certain all cables are plugged in completely. This simply indicates a cable or cord has come loose. Check them all and you should be good to go again.
